Conforming to labels

by Elizabeth @ TeenagersWithExperience

Many labels exist in our world. They can range from the clubs we are a part of to the gender and sexuality we identify with. Some people may choose to conform to labels, others do not. Whilst there are some negative affiliations to do with labels and the stereotype they might bring, giving yourself labels could be a positive thing.

The Key to Success in School? Don’t Give Up!!

by Principal Brad Weinstein.

Picture this… The teacher is doing a lesson on something new and you are sitting there wondering if your classmates are also a little confused. Of course, you assume that you are one of the only ones who doesn’t get it, so you don’t raise your hand to avoid embarrassing yourself. What you don’t realize, however, is that many of your classmates are feeling exactly like you…confused, overwhelmed, and a little frustrated.

Do You Wear Any Labels?

by Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, Deborah Spratling.

I wonder what was the first thing you thought after asking yourself that question? Labels today come in many forms. In society, labels on clothing and footwear can say a lot about you. They can tell someone the type of music you like, the type of activities you like doing or the places you have been and are a way to start a conversation about shared interests. Or these labels may mean you are judged by another person in a negative way and they could take a dislike to you because you do not fit in with their group of friends or ‘tribe’.

Tips To Cope When Your Parents Breakup before Christmas

by self-help expert Dr Pam Spurr.

It’s that time of year when everyone’s supposed to be excited and happy. But when 40% of marriages end in divorce – and an even higher proportion of cohabiting couples break up – it’s far from happy for lots of teens and children.

If your parents have gone through this in recent months, you might be feeling anything from angry to broken-up about it.

Tips To Make Being Online a Happy – Not an Unhappy – Experience!

by self-help expert Dr Pam Spurr.

Your life online can be fun and adventurous. A place to hang out with friends, make new ones, discover new things, find out about your fave bands or stuff to do.

But it’s a sad fact that not everyone online has good intentions. You might’ve seen others being bullied, stalked and/or harassed online. Until it’s happened to you it’s hard to understand how devastating it can be.

And if it does happen to you, it’s important to know how to get help.

How I am Getting through Depression at Medical School

by Medical Student thedepressedmedicalstudent.

When I was approached by Respect Yourself to make a blog post, two feelings floated through my mind. The first was gratitude at being asked to contribute to a charity with such a worthwhile cause. The second was confusion at what I should write. What, I thought, would be a good topic to try to help as many people as possible?
