It is illegal to drop litter

Anyone that drops litter in a public place is committing a crime and they can be fined under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act. The fine is between £50 – £80, and if not paid a magistrates’ court can impose a fine of up to £2,500.

What effect will having a criminal record have on my life?

Having a criminal record makes it very difficult applying for jobs, any type of insurance, a mortgage, study courses and being able to travel abroad. Many companies and countries will refuse you.

What are the consequences of shoplifting?

If you are caught shoplifting, there are many possible consequences that you may be faced with – some of these are short term and others are long term. The main consequences of being caught shoplifting are: a police caution, being arrested, a criminal record and potentially prison (depending on the severity of the offence).
