The cost of smoking soon adds up. Just 5 a day costs £547 a year – what else could you do with that money?

Not only that, insurance will cost you more because you are at greater health risk, as well as a physical risk (smoking in your house raises the risk of fire) and a greater liability. Research has shown that since people who smoke have less regard for their health, they take greater negative risks.

And if you’re self-employed or paid just for the work that you do, you’ll earn less because of the extra sick days you’ll have to take from having an impaired immune system.

Example smoking costs

  • just 5 a day costs £10.70 a week
  • this is £45 a month, which could get you 6 cinema trips!
  • each year, this is a massive £547.50. What else could you do with that money?
