If you’ve got a good idea of where you want to go with your career and like the idea of earning while you learn, an Apprenticeship could be for you. You’ll get top quality training, developing skills and gaining qualifications on the job.
If you can’t find a job, use this as your practising time. Expand your skillset and improve upon your existing skills using the time you have available productively.
An alternative to finding a job at a company is to become self-employed – where you create your own small company and work for yourself, and grow it from there.

If you have been given notice of redundancy and have at least 2 years’ worth of continuous employment, you are entitled to take reasonable paid time off work to look for a new job.
During school holidays 13 to 14 year olds may work a maximum of 25 hours per week. This includes a maximum of five hours on weekdays and Saturdays, and a maximum of two hours on Sunday.
During school holidays 15 to 16 year olds may work a maximum of 35 hours per week. This includes a maximum of eight hours on weekdays and Saturdays, and a maximum of two hours on Sunday.
Although qualifications cannot guarantee you a job, people with the right skills and qualifications have a better chance of finding a job with good prospects and more money. They may also have more job security.
If you want to become self-employed, research the market to see if your product or service would sell well before you invest money in it. You can get grants to help you start up.
