Smoking is the cause of more than a quarter of all deaths from cancer

In the UK, smoking is the cause of more than a quarter (28%) of all deaths from cancer and has killed an estimated 6.6 million people over the last 50 years.

A study published in December 2011 estimated that smoking causes nearly a fifth of all cancer cases in the UK.
