Respect Yourself has asked me to write about the topic of knowing yourself, and how this relates to your career. I’m really pleased they’ve asked me to write on this topic, as it’s a hugely important topic in the world of business and marketing.
If a job interview dress code is “professional”, men should wear a collared shirt, tie and trousers. Women can wear a dress shirt or blouse with a skirt at least knee length.
Make sure you are dressed appropriately for your job interview. Ask your contact at the company what the dress code is like where you are interviewing.
During a job interview it is important that you act, speak and dress professionally – presenting yourself as a competent and serious applicant you will be more likely to make a good first impression.
When you discuss any personal topics in a job interview, relate them to skills that are relevant to the position you are interviewing for. This allows you to express both your personality and illustrate your skills and experience.
Job interviews are focused on a conversation to discover more about your personality, skills and qualifications. Communicating well during your interview is critical and allows you to best represent yourself.
Have realistic expectations of wages when you are applying for jobs. Don’t expect big money when you first start – companies pay more for experience and good skillsets.

Employers, colleges and universities want to know that you stuck at your courses, that you are going to stay and can see a course or job to the end.
You may find a vocational course at college, something which combines working and learning, or even the world of work alone may hold what you want for your future.
