Don’t sign up for anything until you know the full costs; make sure you will be able to afford them. This includes sign-up costs, ongoing costs and exit costs.

This can include the following:

  • mobile subscription services
  • monthly loan or mortgage repayments
  • mobile ‘phone contacts
  • broadband/telephone package
  • energy provider tariff
  • booking a holiday/flight
  • insurance

Many services have an exit fee – such as when switching your mortgage or mobile contract to another provider – and knowing these up-front before you sign the contract should be part of your decision.
