Don’t focus on how you rank in comparison to others – life is not a competition, it’s a journey. We are all on a journey, to find something, to become something, to learn, to create. That journey has nothing to do with how well other people are doing, or what they have. It has everything to do with what you want to do, and where you want to go.
Knowing someone else’s personal motivation for wanting to do something allows you to work towards a win-win situation if you can match it to yours.
The more responsibility you have at work, the more empowered you will feel and the more valuable you will become.
Separating yourself from the story of your past allows you to create the space needed to swivel your attention to living a better present and a happier future of your own creation.
Criticising people doesn’t have the effect you may think it does. Over time, you may have noticed that most of the people whose faults you have gone to such trouble to correct have improved much less than you would have expected. Being less critical and focusing on what has gone ‘right’ is far more effective in getting people to improve what they are doing.
If you feel you are not performing well at work, find out how you can do it better. Ask for help and support. This also shows your boss that you want to do well.
Understand that the past cannot and will not define how you live your present. Nor does it own or define you. However habituated you’ve become to blocking the past out, you no longer need to be prey to your difficult history.
Sometimes we try to criticise others just to make ourselves look or feel better. Taking someone else down for your benefit is destructive, and makes an enemy when you could be making a friend.
Sunday’s are stereotypically slower, lazy days where time is often wasted instead of spent. Instead of wasting your time on a Sunday, spend it. If you have the time, do something you enjoy. Do those jobs you never get around to, or spend it with family. Fill the day.
Instead of looking at your weaknesses, ask yourself what your strengths are. Celebrate them! Be proud of them. Don’t brag, but feel good about them and work on using them to your best advantage.
