A role model is someone you look up to, where you aim to model yourself on their good example. They can be someone real, like a celebrity, teacher or grandparent, or a character from fiction. Imagine how they would act positively in a given situation, and copy their response – get a very vivid idea of what they say and do.
If you push someone too far, they will react to the pushing, not about what you are arguing for. Persuasiveness is more effective than force; gentleness does more than violence.
Instead of spending your time complaining about something, spend the time doing something positive to change it.
If something bad happens or you have an argument early in the day, don’t write the whole day off as a ‘bad’ day and expect that whatever else can go wrong, will. Situations later are often unrelated; treat each situation individually and find the good in each one.
Someone may respond to you in a negative way you didn’t expect. Understand that the response may not have been caused by you, so instead of taking it personally, show understanding and compassion for their situation and see how you can help.
Hindsight is when you look back on a situation and would do things differently knowing what you know now. Try looking at current problems as if you are looking with hindsight at them from the future – how would you solve it, what extra signs would you listen to and what advice would you give yourself?
We are responsible for our actions – all of them. We are responsible for our thoughts and behaviour, whether deliberate or unintentional. A responsible person makes mistakes, but when they do, they take responsibility and make it right.
You’ll get back the attitude you put out. Put out a positive attitude and people will tend to mirror it back to you. Your behaviour and actions influence the people around you.
Don’t do tomorrow what you can do today. Constantly putting something off means it will never get done – so the sooner you do it, the more time you have to enjoy the benefits.
